PIP and auto medical bills
How PIP and auto medical bills work
PIP is the medical coverage on a Florida auto policy. It is meant to pay for treatment after a crash, whoever caused it. This page explains the steps in plain words. Your policy and your insurer decide what is paid, so ask them if anything here differs from your policy.

From the crash to the bill, in order
Five steps. The first one is not us.
- 01
Step 1: Get checked first
If you are hurt, get emergency care or see a physician. Call 911 for anything urgent. Chiropractic can come after.
- 02
Step 2: Tell your auto insurer
Report the crash and ask them to open a PIP claim. They give you a claim number. Keep it with your policy card.
- 03
Step 3: Mind the window
Florida's no-fault rules set a short window to begin care after a crash. Read your policy or ask your insurer how many days you have.
- 04
Step 4: We bill your insurer
For visits PIP covers, we bill your auto insurer directly. Our claims coordinator keeps track of what was sent and what came back.
- 05
Step 5: You see what is left
You get an itemized statement and a plain note on any part that is yours, such as a deductible or care your policy does not cover.

Records
Records and itemized bills, on request
Ask the front desk at any visit for a copy of your chart and an itemized bill. We keep them private and share them only as the law allows. We send them to your insurer, an attorney or another provider only when you ask us to, in writing.
We do not tell you which attorney to use
We do not advise you on a claim or a settlement
We do not contact anyone about a crash first

More about the bill
Do I have to pay at the visit?
For visits PIP covers, we bill your insurer. If part of a visit is yours, such as a deductible, we tell you the amount in writing before the visit.
What if PIP does not cover something?
We tell you before that care happens, in writing, and you choose. You can also ask your health plan whether it pays.
Can you tell me what my policy covers?
We check what your insurer says before your first visit and tell you what we found. Only your insurer can say what it will pay, so treat it as an estimate.
Questions about your policy?
Call the front desk. Bring your claim number if you have one.
